The chief function of the Color should be to serve expression.
— Henri Matisse.
Spring is all about colors and their vibrant hues. One such trend, really delicate to handle is Color blocking. Color blocking is basically ensembling blocks of colors next to one another in clothing, fashion accessories, or even footwears. It’s all about popping of colors but one needs to be careful with them, as it can either go very well or it can prove to be a nightmare. The color blocking showcase a perfect sense of fashionable looks, when picked with right color combos. The soul of this trend is to play with colors, have fun with your look and yet staying chic. Now, here comes the science of color theory to create a fabulous look. I would probably highlight the game of colors with a glimpse of color scheme.
Now coming to the color combinations, I would probably break my thoughts into three sections:
1. In hues of single color: Precisely, I should use the correct word, i.e. monochromatic pick where blocking is done with single color and its hues (mixing white with the color). This blocking is all about the hues, tints and shades of the color being picked. It lacks for any contrasting and ends up giving a well polished look. Here’s the monochromatic looks from red carpet ..

2. Get inside the wheel: I would say this pattern requires picking up two three adjacent colors from the color wheel. Blocking the colors planted on the same row of the wheel gives a very subtle look. Another way to experiment it smartly, is by placing the complementary hues and tints from the wheel and doing it this way certainly gives a great amount of color contrast to the look. Here’s the sneak peek for the contrasted look..

3. Neutrals: One of the safest option to play around the colors, is to match any of the bright color with suitable neutral color tone. With neutrals, the colors counted are beige, black, white, grey, cream etc. Personally, I think neutrals can create a very sophisticated look without any risk of overgoing with the look. Of Course, a lot depends on the impression of the color.
My look:
As I mentioned, it’s always safe to go and play around with neutral colors. I picked up this turquoise color blocked dress from Allen Solly. Honestly speaking, I wasn’t sure about too much colors embarked in one dress (it’s always a risky game). So, I prefer two color blocking that too with white keeping it more subtle. Here’s the glimpse of my look..

I’m crazy for colors. Color embraces you. It wakes you up and keeps you present.
